The annual Fire Hydrant 5K walk/run for homeless pets raises crucial funds for the thousands of animals who come through our doors each year. It’s your support that ensures no animal is ever turned away and each finds the best opportunity for a second chance.

We’re offering two fun, safe, and engaging ways to participate in this year’s event, with registration starting March 19!

  1. Join us in person to complete the Fire Hydrant 5K on Saturday, June 5, at Spring Canyon Park. Spaces are limited, with participant waves occurring at the top of each hour from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Advance registration is required.
  2. Participate virtually from the comfort of your home, neighborhood, or wherever your legs take you anytime from May 29 until June 5!

Now that you know HOW you can participate, we want to tell you the three reasons WHY you should be part of the 31st annual event:

Lose That “COVID 19”: Let’s face it – the pandemic has wreaked havoc on our minds and waistlines alike, but now is the chance to get back to your pre-COVID self. The Fire Hydrant 5K could be the perfect opportunity for you to get outside, to get moving, and get ready for summer!

Quality Time with Your Furry Family Member: Dogs are not only welcome at the Fire Hydrant 5K, they’re encouraged! There’s also a good chance that your dog’s mental health could use a boost. So bring your leashed, licensed, and well-behaved pup to Spring Canyon Park for a special outing (did we mention there’s also a dog park?) or get out in your neighborhood with your favorite furry workout buddy!

Most importantly, you will be helping save the lives of animals in northern Colorado: Every dollar raised will help provide the love and care an animal needs to shift from abandoned to adopted. Here’s a sample of the impact you could have:

Raise $30 – Provides six animals with microchips, ensuring their safe return home should they ever get lost.

Raise $60 – Provides one animal with a spay/neuter surgery, increasing their chance for a healthy life and reducing the risk of pet overpopulation.

Raise $150 – Provides two ill or injured animals with immediate medical care and treatment from licensed veterinarians and a skilled veterinary support team.

Raise $250 – Provides one animal with temporary care and shelter if their owner has been hospitalized, is fleeing domestic violence, or has lost their home to a disaster.

Raise $500 – provides one week’s supply of vaccines, protecting animals during their stay at the shelter, and keeping them healthy when they go home.

Raise $750 – provides a two-week supply of nutritious food for all animals in the shelter’s care, who often arrive hungry, malnourished, and weak.

Raise $1,000 – provides one week’s supply of medications for all animals at the shelter who arrive injured or ill.

Registration for the 31st Annual Fire Hydrant 5K will open on Friday, March 19, and is presented by Poudre Pet & Feed Supply. We hope you join us to help make a difference for animals in northern Colorado!
