JOIN STRAVA TO COMPETE
You’re being joined by more than 600 in-person and virtual participants for the 31st Annual Fire Hydrant 5K, and we know that some of you are ready to race! If you want to compete for the chance to win one of the top finisher prizes, or you simply want to track your time, be sure to follow these three simple steps:
- Scan the QR code below to download the free Strava app and join the Fire Hydrant 5K club. You’ll have to create a profile and enable location for Strava to track your 5K.
- When you’re ready, record your 5K on Strava, and once you’re done, be sure to title your run “FH5K”.
- Finally, let us know if you ran with a furry friend as the top three dog finishers will also earn prizes courtesy of our sponsor, Poudre Pet & Feed Supply!
Since you are a virtual participant, you can walk/run your 5K anytime between now and June 5th at 1pm.
JOIN STRAVA TO MEET UP
Scan the QR code above to join Strava and take part in one of three virtual participant meet-ups. Once you’re a part of the Fire Hydrant 5K club, you can join your fellow virtual 5Kers for a race day run!
Virtual 5K PARTICIPATION TIPS
Keep in mind that we are still part of a global pandemic, so it’s important to be safe and smart about where you are running and walking. Also plan your route on runnable roads and trails with high visibility and good lighting, if participating at night.
Create the Right Course for You
You’ve likely seen runners all over the world resorting to running indoors, in their backyards, and in other creative places to complete races of all kinds and distances.
As your own race director, you get to call the shots, and the most important part of your race is having the best course. The distance is the only requirement—everything else is up to you. You can add hills or flat stretches as you see fit.
You can also get assistance through Strava Routes, where you can find routes that runners near you have completed, and if you’re a premium member, you can even draw a route with your finger on a map and it’ll tell you how far it is.
Tell a Friend
Get your friends and family involved in some way. You can’t run with other people right now, but you can bring them along, virtually.
Do Your Participation When the Time is Right
If it’s cold and storming when you wake up on your virtual race day, no problem! Wait until the time is right. You should pick a day so you can get in a race mindset, but if the day isn’t right for whatever reason, just wait. Your impact will be felt by the animals in northern Colorado no matter what day you choose to compete.
