| Animal Care |
Our Animal Care volunteers work closely with the Animal Care technicians to keep our shelter environment clean, safe, and as comfortable as possible for the animals in our care. Duties include cleaning animals’ kennels; feeding the animals; ensuring that the animals have plenty of water; helping to clean and fold laundry (towels/wash rags), cleaning/sterilizing animals’ toys, dishes, and litter pans; and socializing/providing tender loving care (TLC) to the animals. Volunteers have the opportunity to advance to Level 2 within Animal Care after completing a minimum of 32 hours and a four-month tenure at Animal Care Level 1.

| Animal Photographer |
Our animal photography volunteers obtain high-quality digital photographs of our adoptable animals and accurately load all photos into the database to attract potential adopters and enhance the appearance of the Adoptable Animals section of Larimer Humane Society’s website.

| Animal Videographer |
Our animal videography volunteers film our adoptable animals out in ‘play mode’ and film footage necessary to make a short video of the adoptable animal for posting on our website and social media sites including Facebook and YouTube. Animal videography volunteers must have access to their own camera and video editing software.

| Behavior & Enrichment |
Our Behavior & Enrichment volunteers provide sheltered animals with mental and physical stimulation and basic behavior training, and assist the Larimer Humane Society staff with the implementation of enrichment opportunities for sheltered animals. Our Behavior & Enrichment volunteers also teach and reinforce positive behavior to adoptable animals in order to make them more desirable companions. Volunteers are provided with opportunities for advancement in this department, and may eventually perform Meet your Match® Canine-Ality, Puppy-Ality, and feline personality assessments on adoptable animals.

| Client Services |
Our Client Services volunteers assist Client Services staff with daily duties including greeting clients, cleaning/sterilizing our visitation rooms between patrons’ visits with shelter animals, helping patrons find an animal that best suits their personality based on our Meet your Match (MYM) assessment, assisting with pre-adoption paperwork, moving adoption animals to and from visitation rooms, and assisting with other administrative tasks.

Time/Age requirements: Client Service volunteers must commit to one two-hour shift per week for a minimum of six months. Client Service volunteers must be 18 years of age or older to serve their time independently. Volunteers age 10-15 years of age may join our Partner-Up program with a parent or adult relative.

Client Services Phone Assistant
|
Larimer Humane Society receives hundreds of phone calls a day! Our Client Services Phone Assistants are tasked with answering the main line at Larimer Humane Society and transferring calls to the appropriate department. Client Service Phone Assistant volunteers also take messages for our Client Services staff and answer general questions from the public via phone.
|
Time/Age requirements: Client Service phone assistant volunteers must commit to one two-hour shift per week for a minimum of six months. Phone assisant volunteers must be 18 years of age or older to serve their time independently. Volunteers must complete a minimum of 18 hours of service in Client Services before advancing to this position.

| Community Outreach |
Our Community Outreach volunteers positively and knowledgeably increase the public’s knowledge and understanding of Larimer Humane Society programs and services by representing Larimer Humane Society at community events, festivals, and fundraisers. Community Outreach volunteers also assist with off-site adoption events as necessary.

Time/Age requirements: Community Outreach volunteers must commit to representing Larimer Humane Society at a minimum of five events per calendar year. Community Outreach volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.

| Community Relations Office Assistant |
Our Community Relations office assistant volunteers assist our Community Relations staff with important day to day administrative tasks related to community outreach events, humane education, volunteer program administration and marketing/public relations. Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: identifying, clipping, and recording print and online media coverage concerning Larimer Humane Society, entering data into our respective media coverage and volunteer databases, photocopying, and assisting with special projects as needed.

Time/Age Requirements: Community Relations Office Assistant volunteers are asked to commit to at least one hour of service per week and need to be at least 18 years of age or older.

| Courier Club |
The Larimer Humane Society Courier Club is a program that allows the shelter to off-set delivery fees, staff time, wear and tear on organizational vehicles, and carbon footprints by utilizing the resources in our volunteer pool. Sign up for Courier Club and you’ll automatically be notified if we need help with transporting items from one location to another. Common items that come/go from our shelter include auction items, event promotional materials, 12 of 12,000 photograph prints, print orders, donations, and supplies.

Time/Age Requirements: Courier Club volunteers must be at least 18 years of age or older, be able to provide their own adequate transportation and must provide proof of insurance.

Development
|
Larimer Humane Society’s Development volunteers assist with day-to-day operations of the Development department including entering data, writing thank you notes to donors, labeling and sorting material for bulk mailings, photocopying documents, preparing postcards and envelopes, and assisting with office tasks for fundraising events.

Time/Age Requirements: Development volunteers are asked to commit to at least one hour of service per week and need to be at least 18 years of age or older.

Foster Care
|
Larimer Humane Society’s foster volunteers provide a nurturing and comfortable environment in their home for ill, injured, underage and under-socialized animals to mature, heal, socialize, and become or remain adoptable. Foster volunteers provide all elements of care for foster animals, including the feeding, grooming, medicating, and socializing of the animals. Foster care volunteers return the animals to the shelter upon completion of the foster period and must attend the weekly animal health and behavior appointments.

Time/Age Requirements: Foster Care volunteers must commit to taking on a minimum of two foster cases per year. One family member is selected to be the foster care contact of record; the contact must be at least 18 years of age or older. The foster care contact must attend the weekly animal health and behavior appointments, and maintain ongoing communication with our foster care coordinator.

Graphic Design
|
Our graphic design volunteers assist Larimer Humane Society’s Community Relations team in creating advertisements, web banners, logos and fliers necessary to promote the shelter’s programs and services, and adoption promotions.
|
Time/Age Requirements: Graphic design volunteers work is on an as-needed basis. Volunteers interested in this position must have proven design experience and be able to provide samples of their work.

Humane Education
|
Our humane education volunteers assist our Community Relations team in creating and, on occasion, presenting age-appropriate lesson plans with an interactive focus to community groups, schools and organizations. Humane Education volunteers assist with the set-up of our summer and spring camps, and Tail Tale Story Time. Humane Education volunteers may also be asked to lead shelter tours.

Time/Age Requirements: Humane Education volunteers must be available during our Spring and Summer Waggin’ Tails Kids camps and in the afternoon between the hours of 4-7 p.m. when most of our shelter tours take place. Humane Education volunteers must be at least 18 years of age or older, and be able to provide clearance of a fingerprint screening.

Licensing
|
Larimer Humane Society’s licensing volunteers assist our licensing staff with day-to-day operations including but not limited to preparing tag mailings to pet owners who have renewed their tags by mail and making corrections to various information in the database.

Time/Age Requirements: Licensing volunteers are asked to commit to at least one hour of service per week and need to be at least 18 years of age or older.

Small Mammal
|
Assist Larimer Humane Society’s Evaluation and Enrichment Coordinators in providing ‘everyday enrichment’ to our adoptable small mammals including rabbits, guinea pigs, mice, rats, ferrets, gerbils, and hamsters. Volunteers will provide personal attention and TLC to the small mammals, as well as assist our kennel and client services staff in maintaining a clean living space for the animals by cleaning small mammal cages.

Time/Age requirements: Small Mammal Assistant volunteers must commit to one two-hour shift per week for a minimum of six months. Small Mammal Assistant volunteers must be 16 years of age or older to serve their time independently. Volunteers age 10-15 years of age may join our Partner-Up program with a parent or adult relative.

Special Events
|
Learn event planning and fundraising skills by serving on the event planning committees for Larimer Humane Society’s three largest fundraising events of the year: Fire Hydrant 5 (June), Top Cat & Tails (October), and our Spay-ghetti and No Balls Dinner (November).
|
Time/Age Requirements: Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age to serve on an event committee and will be required to attend all event planning meetings. Event planning meetings are typically held during the work week on a Tuesday or Thursday from approximately 4-6p and increase in frequency closer to the event date. Special Events committee volunteers must be present for the duration of the actual event.

Veterinary Services
|
Larimer Humane Society’s Veterinary Services volunteers help with medical rehabilitation and treatment of animals in a shelter environment by tending to animals prior to and following surgery, sterilizing medical equipment, and cleaning holding kennels. Veterinary Service volunteers do not take part in the actual surgeries.
|
Time/Age Requirements: Veterinary Service volunteers must be 18 years of age or older, and must understand realities of an open-admission shelter including humane euthanasia. Prospective Veterinary Service volunteers must complete a pre-requisite of a minimum of 32 hours and a four month tenure in Animal Care before they are eligible to interview for a volunteer position in Veterinary Services.

WildKind
|
Assist in caring for all WildKind animals, including wildlife, exotic animals, and barnyard animals. Help maintain a clean and comfortable environment for animals. Provide the public with information regarding humane solutions to wildlife concerns.

Time/Age requirements: WildKind volunteers must commit to one two-hour shift per week for a minimum of six months. WildKind volunteers must be 16 years of age or older to serve their time independently. Volunteers age 10-15 years of age may join our Partner-Up program with a parent or adult relative. Volunteers applying to work in our WildKind department must be available during the summer months.
