Veterinary Services Volunteer Description |
Major Objective
To assist Veterinary Services with medical rehabilitation, treatment and spay/neutering of animals in a shelter environment.
Duties
- Assisting veterinary staff with daily medications and treatment of animals
- Grooming and bathing animals
- Reducing stress in animals housed in kennel environments
- Learning examination protocols
- Learning basic in-house laboratory procedures
- Exposure to spay/neuter facility, veterinary student rotation
Training
- Attend volunteer orientation
- Complete volunteer profile
- Interview with Veterinary Department Representative
- Attend LHS 101 training class
- Attend WAGS animal safety and handling class prior to volunteering
- Complete hands on department training
Commitment
Veterinary Services Volunteers must commit to one two-hour shift per week for a minimum of six months.
Volunteer Profile
Must be 18 years or age or older. The volunteers must understand realities of an open admission shelter including humane euthanasia.
