Home Animals Why License Your Pet?
|
A ticket home and serving as their voice is what a round silver tag
means for the 48,248 dogs and cats that received a license in 2008. A
current license also provides an important public safety service.
Rabies is a serious threat to public safety. The rabies virus can be
transmitted fairly easily through saliva or blood contact with an
infected animal. Most cities or counties have ordinances that require
pets are vaccinated against rabies and the license tag confirms record
of this vaccination. Vaccinating your pets against rabies ensures their
protection should they come into contact with a suspected rabies
carrier such as a bat.
Licensing your pet also ensures that your contact information is on
file so Larimer Humane Society can reunite you with your lost
animal. Thanks to our community’s compliance with the Licensing Program
nearly one-half of the stray animals brought to the shelter are quickly
reunited with their guardians. In addition, by referring to the license
tag, Animal Protection and Control Officers return over 325 stray
animals directly to their homes in 2008.
