As an independent nonprofit organization, the Larimer Humane Society
relies on volunteers to care for animals, raise funding, and help
educate our community on our services and programs. Whether you're
interested in simply spending quality time with homeless animals or
want to learn valuable hands-on skills our volunteer program can
accomodate your interests. Your time is a valuable gift and just a few
hours a week will make an incredible difference in the lives of
homeless animals. In 2007, our volunteer team donated 49,983 hours worth $938,100 in salary time!

To Become a Humane Society Volunteer |

- Attend a Volunteer Orientation! Our next general volunteer orientations will be held on Wednesday October 15th from 6:00-7:30 p.m. and Saturday October 18th from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Both orientations will be held at the Larimer Humane Society. There is no cost to attend an orientation but you do need to sign up (please choose one of the two dates). You may sign up beginning September 1st by

- Complete a Volunteer Profile
- Schedule an interview with a department representative
- Pay a $15.00 Volunteer Fee to help us cover the cost of materials
- Attend one LHS 101 Training Class for new volunteers. This training
program is designed to give all new volunteers and staff the basics on
shelter safety, policies, and organizational philosophies. Our next LHS 101 training class will be held on Saturday November 1st from 10 am. to 12:00 p.m.
- Please note: you can only attend LHS 101 after you have
attended an orientation, completed the volunteer profile, and
had an interview with a department representative
- Complete program-specific training

At the Larimer Humane Society community service is defined as a one time or short term volunteer commitment. Whether for a class or court ordered, community service volunteers MUST be 18 years of age or older. Community service is available seven days a week at 8:30 a.m. All community service volunteers should proceed through the employee door located on the east side of the shelter building and wait for a Shelter staff member. You will be required to complete a form for us and then you will be given instructions for the duties available. NO animal handling is allowed. Please dress appropriately for shelter work and wear close-toe rubber soled shoes. We are unable to schedule individual community service times.
