Licensing/Office Assistant Volunteer Description PDF Print E-mail

Major Objective

Assist fun and friendly Larimer Humane Society Licensing staff with important day to day operations.

Duties

  • Preparing tag mailings to pet owners that have renewed their tags by mail
  • Correcting addresses in the data base
  • Making corrections to various information in the data base

  • Attend a Volunteer Orientation
  • Complete Volunteer Profile
  • Interview with Administrative Staff person
  • Attend LHS 101

Commitment

We ask that Licensing/Office Assistant Volunteers commit to at least eight hours of service per month. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age or older.

Volunteer Profile

Organized, professional, quick-learning individual. Basic knowledge of office machinery a plus. Willingness to perform repetitive tasks and work closely with administrative staff.

Veterinary Services Volunteer Description PDF Print E-mail

Major Objective

To assist Veterinary Services with medical rehabilitation, treatment and spay/neutering of animals in a shelter environment. 

Duties

  • Assisting veterinary staff with daily medications and treatment of animals
  • Grooming and bathing animals
  • Reducing stress in animals housed in kennel environments
  • Learning examination protocols
  • Learning basic in-house laboratory procedures
  • Exposure to spay/neuter facility, veterinary student rotation

Training

  • Attend volunteer orientation
  • Complete volunteer profile
  • Interview with Veterinary Department Representative
  • Attend LHS 101 training class
  • Attend WAGS animal safety and handling class prior to volunteering
  • Complete hands on department training

Commitment

Veterinary Services Volunteers must commit to one two-hour shift per week for a minimum of six months.

Volunteer Profile

Must be 18 years or age or older. The volunteers must understand realities of an open admission shelter including humane euthanasia.

Wildkind Volunteer Description PDF Print E-mail

Major Objective

Assist in caring for all Wildkind animals, including wildlife, exotics and barnyard animals. Help maintain a clean and comfortable environment for wildkind animals. Provide the public with information regarding humane solutions to wildlife concerns.

Duties

  • Clean/disinfect housing units, feeding utensils, dishes, walls, counters and floors.
  • Prepare animals’ diets, calculate amounts, and monitor food intake. Syringe or bottle-feed animals as necessary.
  • Answer phone calls regarding wildlife concerns and send out printed materials on humane solutions.
  • Maintain impound status and medical records of Wildkind animals.

Training

  • Attend a Volunteer Orientation
  • Complete Volunteer Profile
  • Interview with Director and/or Manager of Wildkind
  • Attend LHS 101 Training Class
  • One-on-one training with Wildkind staff

Commitment

Wildkind volunteers must be 16 years of age or older in order to serve their time independently. Wildkind volunteers between the ages of 10-15 must be part of a Partner-Up team and attend all aspects of the training together. The adult partner must be at least 18 years old and be a parent or legal guardian of the child. Wildkind volunteers must commit to at least one two-hour shift per week.

Volunteer Profile

Person with a strong commitment to wildlife rehabilitation. Previous animal handling experience preferred. Clear understanding of our philosophy that wild animals should remain wild and are rehabilitated with the goal of releasing them back into their natural environment. Able to understand and support euthanasia policy.

Client Service Associate PDF Print E-mail

Job Classification: Full or part time

Job Relationships: Reports to the Client Services Supervisor

Job Summary: This position represents Larimer Humane Society in a professional and courteous manner and provides quality client service at the Shelter’s front desk. CSA positions may be either full-time or part-time, providing service Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. and Saturday/Sunday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provides quality in-person and telephone client service
  • Educates clients on responsible animal guardianship, animal care and local ordinances
  • Conducts animal adoption counseling, has a good understanding of SAFER evaluation, Meet Your Match, medical history and any other paperwork that needs to be covered with client. 
  • Conducts animal adoptions, completes all necessary paperwork
  • Processes stray and relinquished animals, enters computer data, vaccinates and completes necessary paperwork
  • Solicits donations from clients and assists with in-kind donations
  • Ensures that lost reports and morning/closing checklists are done accurately and completed as assigned
  • Peforms liaison duties as needed

Job Qualifications:

Education/Experience: Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent; minimum of 2-years’ customer service experience in fast paced environment with a variety of client needs

Knowledge: Knowledge of animal breed, behavior, and handling; must become animal handling certified; Knowledge of Chameleon shelter software a plus; Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Access and Excel)


Skills: Effective verbal communication skills for in person and telephone contact; excellent customer service skills, particularly with a variety of client situations; able to prioritize duties and perform multiple tasks; able to work in a high-stress, fast-paced environment; basic computer skills; ability to learn, retain and communicate a wide variety of information; detail oriented 


Abilities: Able to work with animals; able to work with disinfectants and cleaning supplies; able to perform physical work including scrubbing, mopping, lifting, walking, and bending

Working Conditions:

Work Environment: Work performed in animal shelter setting; potential for exposure to zoonotic diseases and cleaning chemicals; potential for exposure to dangerous and fractious animals; potential exposure to high noise levels when in kennel area; potential for animal bites and scratches while handling animals

Physical Activities: Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds; potential for standing on feet for 8 hours a day
