Animal Photography Volunteer Position PDF Print E-mail

Major Objective

Obtain high-quality digital photographs of adoptable animals to attract potential adopters and enhance the appearance of the Adoptable Animals section of the Larimer Humane Society website.

Duties

  • Use a digital camera to take high quality photographs of adoptable animals that do not have a picture in the database
  • Assist staff in updating the adoptable animal binder with photos of animals that are available but not currently housed in adoptions because of space restrictions
  • Retake current photos that are of poorer quality as directed by the Evaluation Coordinator
  • Accurately load all photos into the database
  • Follow the Larimer Humane Society’s animal handling and cleaning protocols
  • Notify the Evaluation Coordinator of any health and/or behavioral issues noted during interaction with the adoptable animals

Limitations

Photography volunteers must be 16 years of age or older.

Commitment

We ask that Photography Volunteers commit 2 hours a week. It is preferred that volunteers are available for mid-morning hours but scheduling is flexible.

Volunteer Profile

Dedicated individuals with digital photography and computer knowledge. Previous animal handling experience is preferred. Must be willing to handle dogs, cats, and small mammals. Volunteers must be able to follow instructions given by the Animal Care Coordinators. Ideal for people who are interested in animal handling and photography experience. Patience and a positive attitude are a must.

Adoption Assistant Volunteer Description PDF Print E-mail

Major Objective

Work closely with potential adopters and client service staff to help facilitate the adoption process. Participate in keeping the shelter environment clean, safe and as comfortable as possible for the animals in our care. To promote the successful integration of adopted animals into new homes.

Duties

  • Greet clients interested in adopting
  • Assist clients with filling out necessary pre-adoption paperwork
  • Escort clients through adoptable animal rooms
  • Answer client questions about adoption process and animals available for adoption
  • Facilitate visits with adoptable animals and clients
  • Ensure appropriate match between client and animal
  • Educate clients about services LHS offers after adoption
  • Maintain sanitary kennel environment by practicing and promoting good disease control.

Training

Assisting with adoption follow-ups

Commitment

Adoption Assistant Volunteers must commit to at least one two hour shift per week for a minimum of six months. Must be 18 years of age or older.

Volunteer Profile

Dedicated individual with strong desire to make good matches between clients and animals. Must use professional and safe animal handling skills. No allergies to animals or chemicals. Must be emotionally equipped to handle overcrowded conditions and long-term residents. Volunteer must be open to on the job training. An individual with the ability to multi task, and some knowledge of animal behavior preferred.

Animal Behavior and Enrichment Volunteer Description PDF Print E-mail

Major Objective

Provide sheltered animals with mental and physical stimulation and basic behavior training. Assist the Larimer Humane Society staff with the implementation of enrichment opportunities for sheltered animals. Teach and reinforce positive behavior to adoptable animals in order to make them more desirable companions. Directly contribute to helping animals get homes and stay in those homes.

Duties

  • Socialize, exercise, and train adoptable animals
  • Produce, clean, and distribute beds and toys to sheltered animals
  • Accurately and positively represent the Larimer Humane Society’s views on animal welfare issues
  • Promote Society fundraising events, activities, and programs

Training

  • Attend a Volunteer Orientation

  • Interview with Adoptions and Enrichment Coordinator
  • Attend LHS 101 Training Class
  • Attend WAGS animal handling training class
  • Attend ongoing training as scheduled

Commitment

Behavior and Enrichment Volunteers must commit to 2 hours per week. Volunteers ages 10 to 15 are welcome to volunteer with a parent or relative (that is 18 or older) as part of our Partner Up Program. Volunteers 16 years or older can volunteer without a partner. 

Volunteer Profile

Volunteers must have a strong desire to improve the lives of sheltered animals. Must have had some type of animal handling experience. Must be patient and understanding with people and animals. Must be willing to get dirty. Must have no allergies to animals or chemicals. Must be able to form a strong, temporary bond with an animal and be able to work independently on helping to acclimate it to unusual sounds, smells and styles of interaction. Must be emotionally equipped to handle crowded conditions and long-term residents. Must have a desire to learn and be open to on the job training.

Community Outreach Volunteer Description PDF Print E-mail

Major Objective

Positively and knowledgeably increase the public’s knowledge and understanding of LHS programs and services. Increase visibility of adoption animals, thereby increasing adoptions and reducing euthanasia.

Duties

  • Staff information and retail booth at community events, festivals, fundraisers and other off-site locations.
  • Accept responsibility for booth materials and retail merchandise
  • Present a professional and positive image of the shelter to the community.
  • Provide general society information to the public and adoption counseling to potential adopters.
  • Accurately and positively represent the shelters views on animal welfare issues
  • Promote Society fundraising events, activities and programs
  • Sell retail merchandise and record information correctly. Cash handling.

Training

Commitment

Community Outreach Volunteers must commitment to an average of two to four hours of booth time per month (outside of training time). Must be available weekends, have own transportation and be a minimum of 16 years of age.

Volunteer Profile

Outgoing personality, good communication skills, deep commitment to animal welfare and ability to speak assertively and professionally. Interested in learning all aspects of shelter services, safe animal handling skills and desire to work with the public to increase awareness and understanding. Cash handling and sales experience helpful.

Development Volunteer Position Description PDF Print E-mail

Major Objective

Assist fun and friendly Larimer Humane Society development staff with important day to day operations.

Duties

  • Data entry
  • Write thank-you notes to donors
  • Label and sort material for bulk mailings
  • Photo-copy documents
  • Meter/stamp postcards and envelopes
  • Assist in the facilitation of fundraising events (creative input appreciated)

Commitment

We ask that Development Volunteers commit to at least one hour of service per week and are at least 18 years of age or older.

Evaluation Coordinator Asst. Volunteer Description PDF Print E-mail

Major Objective

Assist shelter staff with the assessment of adoptable animals to improve their integration into new homes. Participate in keeping the shelter environment clean, safe and as comfortable as possible for the animals in our care.

Duties

  • Perform Meet your Match Canine-Ality, Puppy-Ality and Feline-Ality assessments on adoptable animals
  • Clean and sanitize evaluation rooms and training center following use
  • Take digital photos of adoptable animals
  • Complete kennel inventory
  • Notify the staff of any health and/or behavioral issues noted during interaction with the adoptable animals
  • Follow the Larimer Humane Society’s safe animal handling guidelines
  • General office duties and other miscellaneous duties as assigned
