A ticket home and serving as their voice is what a round silver tag means for the 43,747 dogs and cats that received a license in 2006. A curernt license also provides an important  public safety service.

Through a contractual agreement, the Larimer Humane Society provides animal control services for Fort Collins, Loveland, Unincorporated Larimer County, Wellington, Timnath and Berthoud. The Society's contract for service including providing the Animal Protection & Control Officers, transportation, a licensed animal shelter and trained animal welfare staff as well as caring for the stray animals found in these communities. Animal Protection & Control Officers provide a valuable public safety service by keeping our community safe from agressive animals and enforcing animal ordinances. In 2006 Animal Protection & Control personnel responded to 25,938 activities.
