Animals come in all sorts of different sizes, breeds, and personalities—that’s what makes each one unique. Here at Larimer Humane Society, it is our job to help find the perfect family to match all of those unique needs. And every once in a while, some pets have special needs that call for a special family.
Taco, a three-month old kitten, came to Larimer Humane Society as a stray with a serious abnormality. His front legs bowed outwards, changing the way he was able to move or walk. Although he was in no pain, his condition would need close monitoring and careful care throughout his life. It was clear that he would need an extra special family to match his needs.
When animals have extra needs like Taco, they often have to wait much longer to find their forever homes. We were prepared to wait as long as Taco needed, giving him all the medical care, food, shelter, and love he needed along the way.
Luckily, he did not have to wait very long at all. Nearly a week after Taco had been put up for adoption, Zach walked into the shelter. Zach has a place in his heart for special needs pets, and has opened his home specifically to animals that need some extra care. When he saw Taco, he knew that he needed to take him home. And just like that, Taco’s whole future changed.
Before coming to Larimer Humane Society, Taco had to deal with his problems on his own—he was a lost stray, alone and uncertain. Now,though, Taco can enjoy life at his own pace, with Zach there to help every step of the way. Taco will likely always have some special needs, but with Zach’s love and support, he can stay active and healthy with a long life in front of him.
