Director of Development and Community Relations
Ben Barnhart is the Development and Community Relations Director for Larimer Humane Society. He joined the organization in September 2015, bringing over 11 years of experience in fundraising and community relations. He will use his experience to evaluate and grow the development programming that will be necessary to keep Larimer Humane Society thriving in the animal welfare community in Northern Colorado once the new shelter is constructed.
He is responsible for the overall management and operation of the Development, Volunteer, Humane Education, and Marketing & Community Outreach departments at Larimer Humane Society.
Ben graduated with two degrees from Iowa State University, most recently with a Master of Public Administration in 2012. Prior to assuming his role at Larimer Humane Society, Ben served as Chief Development Officer for the Iowa Region of the American Red Cross; Development Director for the College of Engineering at Iowa State University; and as Associate Director of Development at the University of Northern Colorado Foundation. His professional accomplishments include the successful completion of the 800 million-dollar capital campaign at Iowa State University, raising nearly 10 million dollars in gifts and pledges for the university; as well as the successful completion of several disaster response fundraising campaigns for the American Red Cross, leading the state’s fundraising efforts and managing over 5 million dollars in gifts during his tenure.
Ben recently relocated with his wife, Ali, and three boys-as well as their two dogs-from central Iowa to Fort Collins and enjoys coaching his boys in all sports, skiing, and exploring the mountains. Ben’s current volunteer activities include serving on Leadership Northern Colorado-Class of 2016 and he looks forward to giving back to the community.
