Title: Foster Care & Transfer CoordinatorAlexina Thompson is the Foster Care and Transfer Coordinator for Larimer Humane Society. Having been involved with animal welfare for over six years, Alexina uses her expertise to make sure all animals have a place to go. She is in charge of recruiting and training foster volunteers as well as deciding which animals should be placed into foster care. Alexina is also responsible for transferring animals from Larimer Humane Society to other animal shelters and rescue groups. She ensures that every animal is in a location where they will benefit from a little extra time and care before finding a permanent home.
Alexina began working with Larimer Humane Society in December of 2011. Before joining the staff at Larimer, Alexina held positions at two shelters on the East Coast. She worked for the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) as the Foster Care Coordinator and Assistant Manager. Later Alexina spent time volunteering at Lollypop Farm, the humane society of Greater Rochester, and eventually held a position there handling adoptions and surrenders.
Alexina acquired a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at Juniata College in Pennsylvania before going back to school and receiving Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She graduated with honors from both institutions.
Animal welfare has been an interest of Alexina’s since she can remember; she’s been either volunteering or working at animal shelters since high school. Alexina is most concerned with educating others on the best animal care practices.
Alexina decided to move to Colorado in July of 2011 to be closer to her twin sister. Her passion for animal welfare led her to her position at Larimer Humane Society.
Currently Alexina is living in Fort Collins with her sister and their two rescued cats, Wilber and Newt. In her free time Alexina enjoys running, hiking, biking and traveling.
