“To Promote and Provide the Responsible Care and Treatment of Animals”

Molly Ward

MollyWard Title:Community Relations Coordinator

Molly Ward is the Community Relations Coordinator for Larimer Humane Society.  In this role, Molly utilizes her experience in the fields of education, community outreach, event planning and volunteer management to further educate the residents of northern Colorado on Larimer Humane Society’s programs and services.  Throughout the year, Molly visits with adults, kids and teens to share Larimer Humane Society’s philosophy on the responsible care and treatment of animals in our homes, neighborhoods and adjoining lands.  She accomplishes this task by delivering humane education presentations to schools, service clubs, and faith-based organizations; conducting shelter tours; meeting with scout troops and representing Larimer Humane Society at community-wide events.

In addition to teaching Waggin’ Tails Kids Camp, leading Tail Tale Story Hour, and delivering community presentations, Molly processes volunteer applications, writes articles for Larimer Humane Society’s publications, and assists with the implementation of Larimer Humane Society’s fundraising events.

Prior to joining Larimer Humane Society, Molly served as the Park Naturalist & Volunteer Coordinator for Golden Gate Canyon State Park in Golden, Colorado, and as the Environmental Education Specialist for Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Alviso, California.

Molly holds a master of arts degee in experiential education with a concentration in humane education from Prescott College, a Colorado elementary education teaching credential, and a bachelor of arts degree in environmental studies and botany from the University of Redlands.

Molly first became involved in animal welfare in 2007 after her beloved dog (and first companion animal) Teton passed away after a two-year ordeal with multiple myeloma. As she reflected on Teton’s life, her illness, and the grief of her passing, Molly realized the most meaningful, genuine way to honor Teton’s memory would be to pursue a life’s work focused on educating others about the value of animals in our lives and the importance of humane values toward all living beings.  Molly is most concerned with helping individuals develop humane values toward all living beings through education, for she believes that many of today’s most pressing animal welfare issues are rooted in a lack of awareness about animal needs, companion animal guardianship, and the critical link between our treatment of animals and nature and how we relate to each other.  By elevating the value of non-living beings in our culture, Molly believes we can become a more inclusive, compassionate society in which all living beings are treated with kindness and respect.

Molly lives with her husband and their beloved dogs Canyon, a Golden Retriever, and Mesa, a chocolate Labrador Retriever, in Fort Collins, Colorado.
