Title: Community Relations ManagerMarcie Willms is the Community Relations Manager for Larimer Humane Society. A seasoned, results-driven communications professional and educator with over 13 years of combined experience in public relations and education, Marcie utilizes her extensive experience in developing and driving high-impact PR and marketing programs, and designing innovative lessons to set the strategic direction of Larimer Humane Society’s community outreach, humane education, and volunteer programs, and ensure Larimer Humane Society is positively represented in the media through the organization’s marketing, public relations and marketing efforts.
Prior to working at Larimer Humane Society, Marcie served as a senior PR executive in California’s Silicon Valley where she worked for both Ketchum Public Relations and Weber-Shandwick Worldwide, two of the world’s leading public relations firms. There, she developed and executed high-impact communications programs for Fortune 500 companies and dot-com start-ups including Sun Microsystems, Intuit, 3Com Corporation and Signatures Network, among others. In addition to her work in public relations, Marcie has an equally strong background in education. Prior to moving to Colorado, Marcie worked as an upper-elementary schoolteacher, teaching 4th - 6th grades in urban and rural public schools in both California and Oregon for six years.
Marcie has been passionate about saving animals’ lives since a young age. She grew up in a household with four dogs, one rabbit and multiple guinea pigs, all rescued from the local municipal shelter. A past Board member of Larimer Humane Society, Marcie now puts her passion for shelter animals to work by promoting Larimer Humane Society’s adoptable animals and educating the community about responsible pet ownership, while she waits for her youngest child to grow a bit before adding a new furry addition to the family.
Marcie holds a bachelor of arts in communication studies from Sonoma State University and earned her teaching credential in elementary education through U.C. Berkeley’s Cal Urban Partnership Intern Program (CalPIP). She resides with her husband, Brian, and two daughters in Loveland, Colorado.
