Bill Porter

Bill Porter joined Larimer Humane Society in January 2005 and quickly rose through the ranks to assume the position of Director of Animal Protection and Control.  As a Certified Animal Control Officer (CAACO) and a State Commissioned Animal Control officer with the State of Colorado, Bill utilizes his extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and ordinances related to the control and welfare of animals to set the strategic direction for Larimer Humane Society’s Animal Protection & Control and Pet Licensing departments.  Bill leads a dynamic team of Animal Protection and Control officers and licensing assistants in the enforcement of laws and ordinances, investigation of animal welfare violations, issuance of citations, preparation of court testimony and the impoundment and quarantine of dangerous and vicious animals.

Prior to joining Larimer Humane Society, Bill served as a mobility instructor at Guide Dogs for the Blind in San Rafael, California, ensuring the dogs gained the skills necessary to help the blind and visually-impaired lead successful lives through enhanced mobility.  Prior to his work at Guide Dogs for the Blind, Bill was in the Peace Corps and taught elementary school in Honduras for three years.

Bill holds a bachelor of science in economics from Oregon State University. 

Bill considers it a privilege to serve the residents of Larimer County through the shelter’s Animal Protection & Control efforts, and is proud to live in a community that continually demonstrates its love for animals, both wild and domestic.  He hopes, through Larimer Humane Society’s efforts, to make every neighborhood a safe place for both the people and the animals.

Bill and his wife Becky are the proud owners of Parka, a black lab Guide Dog for the Blind “flunky”; and Sake, a Domestic Longhair cat.  They make their home with their young son in Loveland, Colorado.
