Tom Gorell

Tom Gorell is the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for Larimer Humane Society.  He joined the Board of Directors in September 2008.  Gorell is Special Assistant to the Provost and Executive Vice President at Colorado State University.  In this capacity, Gorell serves as an advisor to the Provost and handles numerous aspects related to faculty affairs at the University including the oversight of department chair trainings, departmental program reviews, approval of travel, and human resources forms.

Prior to serving as the Special Assistant to the Provost at Colorado State University, Gorell served as the Senior Vice President of Administrative Services, where he managed a staff of nearly 600 employees and oversaw the departments of Facilities Management, Human Resource Services, Central Receiving and Mail Services, and Purchasing. 

Gorell joined Colorado State University in 1975.  Over the years, Gorell has held various faculty and administrative roles including the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, Vice President for Administrative Services, a professor of biology, Associate Dean of the College of Natural Sciences, and Director of the Center for Life Sciences.

Gorell received his doctorate in biological sciences from Northwestern University, his master’s in zoology from the University of Arkansas and his bachelor’s in biological sciences from Quincy College.  Gorell lives with his wife Violette and four-year-old West Highland White Terrier named Audrey in Fort Collins, Colorado. 

Gorell’s top priority as a board member is to help educate the community on responsible pet ownership, particularly in regards to pet overpopulation and stray/feral cats.  He firmly supports Larimer Humane Society’s goal to establish a viable funding framework for the organization that will allow for the growth of Larimer Humane Society’s programs and services, including humane education.
